For half the year, Garland is known for its wealth of beautifully scenic golf courses. Then, for two months, when snow covers the ground, the resort becomes a winter wonderland.
There’s still golf at Garland in the winter (snow golf, that is). There’s also cross-country skiing, ice fishing and cozy themed dinners as well as snowshoeing, bingo nights, sleigh rides and so much more. There’s a whole schedule of indoor and outdoor fun every weekend in January and February!
And each winter, there’s always something new to experience and be excited about.

• Bell’s Beer Dinner – Come relax in Garland’s Tamarack Dining Room from 7-9 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, for an evening of epicurean excellence pairing beverages from Michigan’s own Bell’s Brewery with succulent dishes from the resort’s executive chef, Kirk Bennett
• Wild Game Dinner – See what palate-pleasing menu Chef Kirk comes up with for this intriguing dinner that sources ingredients straight out the northern Michigan woods. Make a reservation for this one-time special event, 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7
Winter Traditions At Garland
In addition to new experiences, each winter brings familiar favorites to the resort’s lodge and the surrounding 3,000-plus acres of unspoiled northern Michigan wilderness. Here are some of the fixtures in Garland’s regular lineup of winter activities:
Horse-drawn sleigh rides across the resort’s scenic, snow-covered golf courses on New Year’s Eve and select Saturdays through January and February
Cross-country skiing with daily or seasonal passes for a variety of trails including options that are perfect for beginners and experts alike. Equipment rental and lessons are both available in the resort’s Nordic Center
The beloved Trout Camp on select Saturdays with ice fishing and other frozen, family-friendly games, plus a bonfire with beverages, piping hot soup and Mick’s famous pan-fried fish.
The Nordic, Nibble & Nosh XC ski trek features five food and drink stops along a 10km route through Garland’s scenic landscape. The event is scheduled every couple weeks on a Saturday with special themes including wear your favorite sports jersey and wear your favorite ugly sweater!
Where To Stay At Garland In The Winter
Outside fun aside, just coming to stay in Garland’s rustic Main Lodge or in the resort’s French villas makes for a cozy winter experience with spacious rooms including many that feature a gas fireplace. The resort serves excellent food and beverage throughout the winter with daily specials to please both your wallet and your tastebuds. Plus, a special Valentine’s Day Dinner is planned Saturday, Feb. 14.
Overnight rooms for winter weekends at Garland are available Friday through Sunday every weekend in January and February, with holdovers until Monday for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and Presidents Day holidays. The Main Lodge offers king and 2-bed rooms for two to four guests as well as a penthouse that includes a kitchen and living room. The resort’s French villas feature 3- and 4-bedroom units with jacuzzi tubs and room for up to six adults.
Memberships also are available at Garland. While some members are resort residents or property owners, seasonal memberships are open to anyone. A seasonal membership is ideal for people who live or vacation in northern Michigan and want a regular place to play high-quality golf courses while enjoying the social benefits of being part of the club.
